Middle-Late Triassic metamorphism of the Guajira Arch-basement: Insights from zircon U–Pb and Lu–Hf systematics

چکیده

The Guajira Arch is located in the northernmost portion of South America and holds record several stages magmatism metamorphism. We performed LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon geochronology coupled with Lu–Hf isotope geochemistry on 11 samples from a high-grade gneissic basement hosting interleaved complexes younger meta-granitoids meta-sediments to unravel its tectono-metamorphic evolution. oldest rocks correspond Rodinia-type at ca. 1100-880 Ma, affected by mafic during Permian 272 anatexis Carnian 230 updoming formation an extensional detachment fault Norian 224 Ma concluding Jurassic since 190 Ma. Trace element shows that Triassic zircons are depleted HREE yield lower Th/U ratios than enriched both HREE, Yb, Y. Hf systematics indicates evolution towards more radiogenic compositions. lithological associations, structural setting, ages, Triassic-Jurassic characterize active margin setting hot orogenic belt NW-Gondwana, comprising Central Cordillera Colombia, Santa Marta Massif, Merida Andes, Perijá Range, Santander Massif para-autochthonous terranes south Ouachita-Marathon Suture (Oaxaquia, Acatlán, Maya), thus vindicate existence conjugate Laurentia until Late Triassic, preceding breakup western Pangaea. anatectites granitoids Proterozoic TDMi ages which indistinguishable autochthonous render allochthonous origin terrane accretion highly improbable. Comparative size evolution of marine clades from the Late Permian through Middle Triassic

—The small size of Early Triassic marine organisms has important implications for the ecological and environmental pressures operating during and after the end-Permian mass extinction. However, this “Lilliput Effect” has only been documented quantitatively in a few invertebrate clades. Moreover, the discovery of Early Triassic gastropod specimens larger than any previously known has called the ...

Metamorphism of Late Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian Schists in Southwest of Zanjan from the Soltanieh Belt in Northwest of Iran

Late Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian schists have been occurred in southwest of Zanjan city from the Soltanieh belt. The Soltanieh belt in northwest of Iran is uplifted basement of Precambrian-Paleozoic in main central Iran zone and includes outcrops of Precambrian, Paleozoic and Mesozoic Formations. Late Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian schists, the oldest stratigraphy unit in the region, consist o...

A large predatory archosaur from the Late Triassic of Poland

We describe a new large predatory archosaur, Smok wawelski gen. et sp. nov., from the latest Triassic (latest Norian–early Rhaetian; approximately 205–200 Ma) of Lisowice (Lipie Śląskie clay−pit) in southern Poland. The length of the recon− structed skeleton is 5–6 m and that of the skull 50–60 cm, making S. wawelski larger than any other known predatory archosaur from the Late Triassic and Ear...

A trematosauroid temnospondyl from the Middle Triassic of Jordan

Phylogenetic hypotheses, biogeographic dispersal models, and evolutionary scenarios are difficult to form but easy to reject: a single fossil may be sufficient. Previously neglected or inaccessible regions bear high potential for the discovery of such fossils, because they shed light on new faunas with unorthodox combinations of taxa, and sometimes reveal representatives of clades that were not...
